Lyle’s Steakhouse, Part I
February 4, 2007 in Life of Brian | Leave a Comment
When I was young my father used to take us to Lyle’s Steakhouse just outside of Oxon Hill, Maryland. I think Lyle simply liked the term “steakhouse” because he really didn’t go to any effort to serve up steak or anything edible in all the years we went there.
Lyle’s was really just a seedy bar on the edge of town that catered to alcoholic government workers, suicidal divorcees and Kirby vacuum salesmen.
Lyle’s was lit by a single grease covered 25 watt bulb that hung from an even greasier dust covered electrical cord. No lamps, no shades, no switches. Just the sticky black plastic peg that stuck out above the bulb. Click on, click off.

Six kids run screaming from the mother’s sphere of influence and each scatter into a different area of the restaurant (can Chuck’s really be called a restaurant?). Mom orders her pizza and, of course, grabs a table right in the middle of everyone.
One of the younger boys has all the couth and grace of Mike Tyson before jail and proceeds to steal game tickets from his siblings and then from strangers.
Within seconds there are four kids crying, at least six kids screaming, and one adult (me) steaming.

Okay, that’s it.
I’ve had it with Joomla, Moveable Type and Expression Engine… especially Expression Engine.
For the past few weeks I’ve noticed that my rankings in Google have been sliding down and off the front pages for many keywords and topics. So I started a discussion over on Michel Fortin’s fantastic copywriting forum and after 19 posts it was overwhelmingly evident that WordPress has it all over the other blog and content management systems.
But yesterday sent me over the edge.
