Do You Run A Dirty Website?
February 12, 2007 in Web Hosting
Are you running a “dirty” website? (If so, send pictures!)
What I mean is, are you doing everything right and still things are going wrong?
You can’t get listed in Google. Nothing comes up in MSN. Heck, even Yahoo! Search Marketing won’t take your money (just kidding on that one!). Well, maybe it isn’t you. It could be your IP address.
Here is a worthwhile web. It will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about an IP address and then some.
The site is called DNSstuff.com.
When you host your website on a server you are either given a dedicated IP address or a shared IP address.
Basically, your IP address is your domain’s “street address” so that other computers can find it among all the other domain names.
You may be doing things right but did the previous tenant at that same street address play nice?
Perhaps they were spamming search engines or email accounts. Perhaps they ran a porn or gambling site. Maybe they had an open port and allowed malicious bots to attack other computers. How can you be sure?
Simply run your domain’s IP through the “Spam Database Lookup” form.
This test will check all known spam databases to see if the IP address you enter is listed with any of them. It will also report the information that the spam databases give out about the domain. Plus, it will also check to see if there is a missing reverse DNS entry for the domain.
If you have a “dirty” IP address, you should consider moving your site to another server with another host as soon as possible.

I had no idea that I could have a bad IP address. That sucks!
(I thought this post was about Antonella Barba!)
